There is a festival at the Nikko shrines in May. It is called the 1000 Samurai Procession and I highly recommend it. It can be crowded though but still fun.

Nikko is incredible. And it has an incredible history as well. Founded about 1000 years ago and then the mausoleum of the great shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu.
