Charms

The Japanese love good luck charms. Go to most any temple or shrine and you can buy good luck charms to protect your house or help your studies. This fish thing was placed on the top of the roof to protect against lightning strikes and fires. I think it worked for the most part, because it only burned down twice in like 300 years.
