Seems to me that it would only feel like “an extra hour” on the day you set clocks back…and then you’d “lose” an hour six months later!

While you’re here in Japan, just go to bed an hour earlier every night!

Long ago, it was probably helpful for farmers…but nowadays, with electric lights…it’s unnecessary. Plus nowadays, everything has a clock on it—what a pain it must be changing them all twice a year!

Not to me. Glad we don’t have it here (in Japan)!

As I said above, there are a few US states. Beside Arizona, Hawaii doesn’t use it either. Florida and Alaska are considering abolishing it.

Most don’t. Usually it’s places up north that do (because of the long nights there).

Awesome! I pointed that building out to a friend when I was there and we were wondering what it was…thanks for the news! And yes, I agree. I would love to visit Yokohama again. Maybe in the spring when it warms up a bit.

Yeah, it probably wouldn’t help that much, but a little is better than none. Plus, I always like a holiday, and getting an extra hour of sleep sounds like a holiday to me.

Woah, I didn’t realize that Arizona didn’t do daylight savings. But then again, they don’t really need it, do they? They have too much sun the way it is.

I once stayed at the Pan Pacific Hotel there in downtown Yokohama. That’s that moon shaped hotel in your picture near the super high rise tower. I love that area of Yokohama.

There is a festival at the Nikko shrines in May. It is called the 1000 Samurai Procession and I highly recommend it. It can be crowded though but still fun.

Not every State in the US follows daylight savings either. Arizona does not have it.

The 4:30 darkness is definitely a sad one but daylight savings wouldn’t help anyway for 2 reasons a) sundown at 5:30 isn’t much help and b) it’s usually done in Summer so it wouldn’t effect us now anyway – I’ve always thought it was backwards because surely we need the extra daylight hour in winter but then again those wonderful 9:30 sunsets on a hot Summer night are pretty damn incredible!
